Question: I want to go on a beginners course, but I do not have any equipment!
Answer: That fine, we provide all the equipment to enable you to shoot safely during the beginners course.
Whilst on the course we will advise you on the best equipment to suit your pocket and style and when to buy.
Please do not purchase any equipment upfront as it may be unsuitable.
On the day of the course please bring a light rainproof jacket and wear a close fitting top, as the bowstring can catch on baggy tops.
If you have long hair, it is advisable to secure it, so that it doesn’t catch on the bowstring.
We provide tea & coffee in the break.
Question: My Son/Daughter would like to learn to shoot.
Answer: Welcome, but there are a few things you should know.
Archery is a demanding physical sport. Whilst we do not run or jump around with lots of exercise, the repeated action of pulling a bow can be physically demanding and the concentration involved means we have to put a lower limit on the age of a child that we feel comfortable teaching.
Currently we consider 8 years old as the very lowest age we can teach this sport to a child.
In additional, due to the nature of our sport, we ask that a parent or guardian be in attendance at all times. The coaches will be in control of the beginners whilst they are active engaged in shooting, but at all other times, the parents should be responsible for their child.
We recommend that an adult from the family take up the sport. This allows the family to understand more fully the highs and lows the junior archer is facing as they develop. Archery is a sport which all the family can partake in and get enjoyment from.
We cannot stress enough the advice that equipment purchases should only be undertaken after the beginners course is completeand the coaches have had a change to assess the correct parameters. Buying the wrong equipment without taking advice and training could cause damage or harm (potentially permanent), or simply discourage a beginner from taking the sport up.
To take the beginners course you only need to pay once for the entire course, which covers the provision of the venue, coaches and hire of the equipment for the entire course.
The fees are as follows:
- Adults £65
- Juniors (under 18) £45
- Two adults £110
- One adult plus one junior £90
- Additional adult + £45
- Additional junior + £25
If you attend one of our Have-A-Go sessions (£10 per person for an hours individually coached shooting) and sign up for a beginners course then the £10 fee will be deducted from your beginners course fees.
To join the club as a member, additional fee’s are required.
It is finally the summer of 2018 and we are outdoors again.
Our chairman Pete has drawn up a list of activities to help us develop as a club and as archers. The programme is attached.
Please read through the programme and be prepared to the day. We will be keeping to the schedule for beginners courses and target days. If you do not want to shoot a round on a target day, then please ensure you shoot in sync and help to keep the day moving forward without any delays.
