The magic is coming back this year, on the 30th of October with the Witches & Warlocks Open Shoot. Registration form at the bottom with entry fees of 8£ to 6£.
The game, is a fun moment to enjoy altogether a small tournament in special conditions. While the round will present a no efforts challenge to all experienced archers, it will be an opportunity for all clubs and families to get themselves a bit more familiar to the practice of tournaments.

Rounds and scoring
The traditional Witches & Warlocks round is 5 dozen arrows at 30mt on a 80cm face. In addition, for who may prefer a shorter distance, the Magician Apprentices will represent an easier challenge at 20mt on the same settings. Due to high precision of compound bows, the Magician Apprentices round will be accessible only to Longbow, Barebow and Recurve categories .
- Witches & Warlocks: 60 arrows at 30mt on a 80cm faces
- Magician Apprentices: 60 arrows at 20mt on a 80cm faces
The scoring for the rounds, will be a standard 10 zones metric scoring, with a special addition. Each face will contain up to 4 pumpkin stickers. The entire sticker, if hit or touched, counts as a 9.
The pumpkins are also to be marked as P in the scoresheet. The female and male archers with the highest pumpkin rating, will respectively win the title Witch and Warlock for the year 2022.
Ratings will be calculated by the tournament organizers. So you won’t have to worry about that. The algorithm will as such:
- Longbow: [pumpkins hit] times 3*
- Barebow: [pumpkins hit] times 1.9*
- Recurve: [pumpkins hit] times 1*
- Compound: [pumpkins hit] times 0.9*
(* = +3 if the archer wears a fancy dress)
Hey… magic, is always unpredictable.
But very simply, you will just have to record the pumpkin with a letter P and score it as a 9.
Awards
Depending on attendance, we will produce a number of awards. But in addition to the principal title attributions of Witch and Warlock for the year 2022, best seeding archers of each category will get to become:
- Starlight Witch/Warlock (1st position)
- Fire Witch/Warlock (2nd position)
- Water Witch/Warlock (3rd position)
Food
And here comes at last the hot part. Minestrone.
A stand with hot soup (made of vegetables and pasta) will be available on the day, thanks to all volunteering. Each archer will be entitled to a portion of hot soup during the day. Hot drinks and additional portions can be purchased at the stand (I wish energy prices would allow to give it all for free…).
