What a great gorgeous glossy 3 sessions Portsmouth we had today.
Archers of all kind attended the cozy venue down at the Coleg Cambria in Connah’s Quay: good archers, great archers, fantastic archers and their patient ravishing spectators.
In the usual mind blowing frenzy of the start of a tournament day, old friends and usual suspects began to appear. While club members were completing the final details of a shooting range perfectly set up (it’s not true of course, just taking a poetic license here…) judges began the equipment inspection and with great impatience archers zealously got ready for their first round, a single Portsmouth.
Little, too little did we know about the joy the day would bring to us. It’s always good to be on the line, to meet new people and exchange experiences, tips and a simple smile. A bump of the fist.
People drove 90 miles to join us today. Not just a single person. Because archery means really something that goes beyond a simple arrow. It’s a discovery, it’s passion, it’s commitment. It’s pure, pure pleasure.
And so, under the careful eye of Ian Ashworth, John Edwards and Phil Abbott (our judges for the day) the first round passed by.
Our club’s signature and paramount coach Pete Pendrey handed out the awards. And that was when. That was exactly the moment the Dragons made their majestic entry.
Now, I’m sure none of the present archers remembers it like this, but feisty fiery breath-taking Dragons entered the scene reined by the nimble whip of Sue Wolfendale, records officer of Welsh Archery Association.
And so the Double Portsmouth began. 120 arrows, all aimed at that little, distant tiny 10. All to be shot right there in the 10. And what’s event worse, shot one after another.
Can you imagine?
Too quick. It went all out too quickly.
In the rush of the events, I think my eyes even caught a glimpse of Master Patrick taming a Purple Dragon. Too bright in his glowing appearance for me to be sure of what really happened.
Thanks to all that helped. Thanks to field party that showed up magically arranging equipment in place. Thanks to members Clare, Peta, Dave and Abbie for looking after the well-being of our beloved guests with drinks and entertainment.
Thanks to Patrick for being quicker than the printer itself and simplify the job of data entry.
But absolutely huge thanks to Emma, for providing us support in completing the event!
See you on the line,
Angelo
